Our Master Bedroom: Re-decorated!

Okay before I show you guys, let me just say that I have a LOT more to do to our room, but I'm not sure how quickly it's going ot happen, so I wanted to show what I've got done so far, which is a lot!

I forgot to take a "before" pic of how it looked recently, but when we first moved in, this is pretty much how it looked:

After time, that Damask comforter got totally faded, and there was a huge hole in the corner of it. Lol.

This is the angle from the bed looking towards the deck.

Not bad but not GREAT.

After one year and 2 months of living there, we finally got my DREAM mattress, a King Temperpedic Cloud. This my friends, is the best mattress in the WORLD.  Especially upgrading from a queen to a king, with 3 Chihuahuas sleeping with us every night. But let me just say, the mattress and flat screen are the only expensive things in our room. Everything else in this room is VERY affordable and I am proud to say it sure doesn't LOOK like a cheap room.  Here it is!:

King Bed from Ikea (Under $200.)
King down comforter $99.00 on sale at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
King duvet cover and pillow shams $35.00 from TJ Max Home goods.
All white king sheet set from Ross $30.00 or so.
(Took advice from Kelsey at Fabulously Flawed to do all white bedding because it never fades and can be bleached! Awesome advice and I'm so happy we did it!)
Throw pillows from Target on clearance.
Lamp shades $12.00 a piece from Ross (with painted lamp bases we already had.)
Armoir and night stand from Ikea, other night stand is a TV tray painted white..
(new nightstands coming soon.)
Damask chest at the end of the bed $35.00 from Ross.
Picture frames on the wall behind the bed $4.00 a piece from Big Lots, I spray painted them black.

Curtains we already had were like $40 a panel from Target:

All the pics above the bed are of Michael and I in black and white. I love them!:

Looking out towards back porch area. Those pink curtains will be replaced eventually. For now though, they're not bad for being $12 a panel from Wal-Mart:

Close up of the cute Target throw pillows, and the cute little Coco Chanel perched on top of them! :) Can you spot the dog bone...?:

The free yard sale black table that I painted pink and the little silver chair I painted white are hanging out in front of the window for now... but I have better plans for this area, and I plan on moving the table and chair to the back porch for the summer:

But they're kind of cute where they are for now:

This is the view from the bed looking into the bathroom area... I have MAJOR plans for this area too, so stay tuned! It's way too boring now! This is a work in progress...

So anyways I hope you like what I've done so far! And yes, I know many of you are wondering how in the world my husband lets me do such a girly looking room, but trust me, he doesn't care! He likes it. And if any of you have seen our previous hot pink bedrooms, I have toned down the girly-ness QUITE a bit!!!

Shabby Chic Jewelry Table

Hi friends!

A few weeks ago I was at Ross (which happens to be one of my FAVORITE places for bargain shopping AKA: treasure hunting) and I found a perfect little table/dresser thing with 3 little drawers to hold all of my jewelery boxes.  I had no where to put them all before so I was pretty excited.

As you can see, it's cute and perfect for what I needed but brown is just not my thing, and it doesn't go well in my bedroom/bathroom area:

So yesterday I thought, I have tons of this shabby pink paint left, and I need something else in our room in that color to match the little table I painted, so let's paint it! I spray painted the wicker drawers white:

I thought it worked out great!  I decided not to put more coats of paint on then I did because I like that a little bit of brown is still peaking through, it makes it look older and more like a shabby chic dresser:

I love it!!! So much prettier than it was before.  This is the angle from the bathroom looking out at it where you can see the matching table:

It looks so cute with my jewelry box on it all set up! :)

Jewelry table $25.00
Shabby Chic pink paint $1.00
White spray paint: $3.99

Working on the bedroom reveal...

Good morning!

I have been working on finishing up my bedroom re-do so I can post a pic,  but there are still a few things left that I want to do before showing it to you guys.  I figured I would post some pics of a few things I have done for the room without showing you the WHOLE room first.  And I shouldn't say "I" I should say "we"  because my awesome, amazing, wonderful hubby has totally been helping me with everything too.  (I think he secretly like this stuff... ssh!)

There was a change of plans for the room though.  We decided not to do the headboard.  I know, I was really excited about it, but after searching and searching for the right fabric with no luck, we decided to buy a new bed.  My HUSBAND found it online and showed it to me, and it was perfect. He has the best taste! Then he went and bought it last week while I was at work and him and his friends assembled it all before I got home. SO SWEET! So, since the main part of the room was so easily accomplished, I have been working on putting the rest of the little details together and will be showing it off VERY soon!

Here is one part of the room that I am excited about. I had these 2 matching lamps that an old friend gave to me that were okay looking, but not my style. Just a little too boring. So on Saturday at Ross, I came across 2 matching lamp shades that match our curtains perfectly, and they were only $12.99 a piece! So Michael and I painted the bases of the lamps from dark brown to white:

Popped on the new lamp shades, and voila!

The look of this lamp gives a big hint to how the rest of our bedroom is going to look...
On Sunday we stopped at a yard sale right by our house when they were packing up their stuff, and got a lot of fun stuff.  We took this table, even though it sucks, because it was free:

And the day before I found a $1 pint of "shabby chic pink" paint on the Home Depot "oops" table, so I took that and painted the little sucker!

It's a very outdoor looking table I know, but we do have a porch off of our bedroom, keep that in mind.
Also at that yard sale, we got a bunch of frames for free. I took the picture and glass out of this one:

Took out my $1 shabby pink paint:

Then spray painted the glass with a few coats of my leftover chalk board paint, and made this:

I'm not sure where I'm putting it yet in our room, but I love chalk boards and was pretty excited about having one for our room too! Need to re-write my bible verse on their too in prettier handwriting.. lol.

So, that's what I've been up to lately.  Oh but that's not all, we finally got paint stripper and a power sander to start working on the TABLE! (AKA: Cute wooden breakfast nook I found on Craigslist a few weeks ago: Cute table.)  This project is going to be a LOT more work than I initially thought, and take a lot longer than I thought too, because we have to take it apart and strip all of the paint off before we even start sanding.

Here is a picture to give you an idea:

Underneath the white crackle paint is green stain... ugh.  This table WILL be a beauty when we are finished with it! And thank GOD my husband is willing to help with this because I could never do this project alone, it's a beast.

Well, that's all for now! The room reveal will probably come before the table reveal. :) Can't wait!

Fun Website

It's been awhile since I've blogged, mainly because I've been trying to start a few new projects and have not had the time yet... AT ALL. I hate being too busy to do fun projects! (Working on that..)

Anyways I thought I would post this cool website I found through another blog I follow.  You get a blank template and can create your own interior design scene, or outfits, or collages, etc! I'm having so much fun with it. It's helping me decide exactly how I'm going to re-do our bedroom.

Check it out!

PS:  We finally got our new Temperpedic king mattress! Now I need to make our head board and get going with the room. Just have to find the perfect fabric first. Can't wait to finish and blog about it! :)

Crazy woman with white spray paint

So before I can start on our table and head board, I've been painting random things in my house white. I've noticed by doing so it's really lighting up the downstairs which is usually pretty dark.  Here are some random things I've done:

Our key & leash hanger by the side door:

I took out the mirror, and took off all the hardware.. painted and put it back together. (I had my husband move the water jug somewhere more hidden too by the way.)

Much better! :)

I also painted this random little chair that's been in the guest room closet:

I just put a pillow on it for now and it looks perfect in the corner of our bedroom:

And this thing used to be silver and ugly in our stairway landing, so I painted it and it looks so cute now!

It's kind of exciting what a can of white spray paint can do!

Wagon Wheel Taco Pasta Salad

I found this recipe while surfing blogs last week and it looked so amazing, I made it yesterday for Mother's Day. It turned out AWESOME so I had to share the recipe:

Ingredients -

1 lb of wagon wheel pasta (I used the mini ones)
1 can of black beans, drained and rinsed
1 10 oz pkg frozen corn, thawed
2 med tomatoes, seeded and diced
8 oz shredded mexican blend cheese
1 1/2 cups salsa (I used Rojo's Fire roasted salsa because I'm obsessed)
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tbsp cumin
1-2 tsp chili powder
2 garlic cloves, minced (I'm also obsessed with garlic so I used like 6....)
S and P
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 avocado, diced
A lemon for some lemon juice
Garlic salt to taste

Directions -

Cook pasta al dente, drain and rinse

In a large bowl combine black beans, corn, tomatoes, salsa and cheese. Add the  cooled pasta and mix well.

In another bowl whisk olive oil, a little bit of lemon juice, garlic, cumin, & chili powder.  Pour over pasta salad, add cilantro and mix well.  Season to taste with S and P.. and I added garlic salt, it needed it.

Just before serving, stir in diced avocado.

After eating it, Chef Boyardee (AKA: my husband) suggested that I use onion next time because he loves onion.  So I'm doing that next time because it would blend well with this recipe.

Now I must go home to eat some left over pasta!! :D Hehe...

The search for the perfect table has paid off!

Hello and Happy Friday!

Yesterday after my blog post I started searching Craigslist again (like I have been every day for the past few weeks) for the perfect dining room table and chairs.  I have been looking for something old and made of real wood, that had potential but was cheap.  I finally came across a table with a bench seat, it's a breakfast nook.  They were asking $100 and that's the cheapest deal I have found so far for something like this! Plus it's original.  It has tons of cracked white paint, and underneath looks like someone painted it green once upon a time too, so I have a TON of sanding to do.  It's made of pine and is very sturdy, and I LOVE it!! It fits so perfectly in the corner of our dining area.  As much as I want to get started on it NOW... I can't. I have no where to store it really and we have Mother's Day brunch at our house Sunday, and my aunt coming that day and staying through Thursday, and I don't want to have the table on our back porch that whole time.  So, I'm being patient for once and we're going to use the table as it is through the next week. Then, next weekend after my aunt leaves and I have some free time, I'm going to start on it!  I have to show it to you guys though of course.

Here she is:

Isn't it adorable?

I know the chairs aren't the most original looking.. but once this thing is painted (white of course) I know it's going to look gorgeous and be exactly what my dining room needed! The bench seats open up for storage too! How cool is that? Also, after I paint it white, I'm going to do seat covers and bench covers to match I think... just haven't decided on the colors yet, we will see.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

I'm on a roll!

Okay so... yesterday I made yet another trip to Home Depot after work (4th visit this week) to get more white paint.  I came home and spent the entire evening making stuff again! I swear my husband thinks I'm crazy.

I didn't want to post pictures of the stuff I make until it's actually hanging on the wall where it's supposed to be, so that the "After" would be as perfect as possible, but I'm too impatient to wait so I'm going to post more stuff now. :D

Okay so this might be my favorite one I've made so far.  We had these 2 very HIDEOUS silver mirrors in our guest room that we had up just to fill up wall space. We got them years ago for like $5 a piece at Ross to decorate our apartment with on a budget. That was back when I didn't have a "vision" of what I want my house to look like, and grabbed whatever we could find.  Here's one of them:

Straight ugly.

My dear hubby still loves these mirrors but I demanded that I take them down, and turn them into something WAAAAY better.......... liiiiiiiike......

OMGosh I'm in love with them.

I got the idea from a few different blogs I saw actually, when I saw that a lot of people were using chalk board paint and turning anything and everything into chalk boards.  I thought it was such a cute idea. All I did was remove the mirror from the frame, put some primer on the mirror (which Kelsey told me is not necessary after the fact so now I know that for next time,) then sprayed the frames white (did a few coats) then when the primer was dry on the mirrors I sprayed a few coats of the chalkboard paint. I'm going to keep one for my kitchen area where I can write my favorite quotes or bible verses on, and then give one to my mom for Mother's Day, and write something cute on it for her.  The thing I love most about them, is they seem shabby-chic-ish and I didn't even know they would turn out that way.  I LOVE WHITE PAINT!!!! Okay I'm getting overly excited here, they're just chalk boards Stevie...

Okay so here's another one for ya.  We got these 2 little flower pictures as a wedding gift for our wedding out of our Target registry.  I remember when we opened them it took me a minute to remember even zapping them with the registry gun that wild Saturday in Target, because I think Michael and I scanned every item in the store.  But, they were cute at the time because they matched all of the red we had going on in our living room and so we've had them up ever since.  Currently they were hanging on the stairway wall, collecting dust and boring me to death. :/  So.... last night while Michael was distracted drinking with his brother for Cinco De Mayo, I played Decorating Ninja and stole the pics off the wall and went to town.  Here they are before:

Now, I ran out of white paint (AGAIN) so I could only finish one, but here is what I did:

A cork board!!! Isn't it fun??

This time I didn't really copy anything I saw, I just did it, so I'm proud of that. LOL.  Again I just removed the frame from the glass and picture, painted it, and while that dried I took the cardboard picture and used a glue gun (my 99 cent store one that's still holding up) and glued each cork one by one on the board in that pattern. It was fun! I will make another one out of the second frame once I get more paint.  How in the world do I have so many corks do you ask?  Well, I do love wine and have been saving corks for like 2 years now because I knew at some point I would finally make a project with them.. but I also have a friend who's parent's got me a TON of corks from a winery to add to my collection. So this project was destined to happen. :)  I think corks are pretty, and natural looking.

Okay so that's all I have to share at the moment.  But there will be a lot more coming soon... bigger and better things!  I will also post pics of what everything looks like hanging on my walls looking pretty.  Like I said, I'm on a roll.  And last night while I was once again whining that I ran out of white paint, my husband threw some cash at me and said "Here. For your paint fund. Go buy a bunch this time."  So, now hopefully I'll have so much paint that I can finish a million other things I want to do by Mother's Day when we have people over and my aunt comes to visit.

Bye for now!
